Description
The Dilemma of Muslim Psychologists is a classic critique by Malik Badri, a practising Muslim, psychotherapist and professor of psychology. The book asks whether Muslims need modern psychology at all, whether it is wholly Western, and whether it can be reconciled with Islam. Badri warns Muslim psychologists against copying Western theories and practices blindly, an idea he captures in the phrase "in the lizard's hole", taken from a saying of the Prophet. He also argues that some therapeutic techniques, though they grew out of an anti-religious philosophy, have become neutral enough to serve Islam.
